Another Medium Mystery
Do I know you?
I just got invited to be a writer for a Medium pub that I’ve never read.
That I never asked to write for.
That I never submitted a draft to.
That has never published any stories.
Hmmm.
I checked out the publication, CHANGES TO THIS PLATFORM OF OURS.
Theoretically, it has a lot of affiliated writers. My profile is linked there, along with dozens of others.
None of whom have published anything here.
According to a post by the supposed editor, “URGENT IMPROVEMENTS TO MEDIUM DESIRED”.
Why the post, and the landing page for the pub, are illustrated with a photo of Barrack Obama is not explained. Nor is the process by which authors are added.
In one of the author’s posts, the Obama photo is followed by a long and somewhat coherent list of grievances by the publisher, along with some screen shots of his stats and a concern that Medium does not provide sufficient detail in its analytics.
I have an idea: an urgent improvement to Medium might be that a writer has to agree before being “added” to a publication and publicly affiliated with it? A kind of mutual respect thing?
Just saying.
PS: I have subsequently removed myself as a writer for this publication. At least Medium provides clear instructions for how to do that!
