Is there a point when one must admit to being too old for rock concerts?
On Friday night, my husband and I went to see the Rolling Stones.
The performance was everything the Stones have come to be known for: visual spectacle, tight arrangements, Mick prancing, superb back-up singing, excellent band.
And yet I came away wondering, is there a time when time has passed you by, and you’re too old for arena rock concerts?
This show was the only Canadian date on the Hackney Diamonds tour. By the looks of the stadium, it wasn’t completely sold out — we were able to buy tickets without paying a scalper on the day of — but it was a very full house in the local shrine to sports and spectacle.
The audience was just as diverse as our city — every shade of hair and skin, varied ages and ethnicity, and a lot of tour t-shirts sported by die-hard fans who appear to have been attending Stones concerts for decades.
